Hiking Without Supervision

Tales from the trail (aka Senior Moments)

Day 6, April 17: Plan it Again Kate!

I spent months planning this trip, reading blog after blog to get the route right (yes, there are multiple), getting the daily mileage manageable, buying light weight equipment, blah blah blah. But, the plan just went tits up again today.

We had made a decision to do a flip-flop today. Meaning we would take the bus to our accommodation, wash our clothes (they are a little stinky), check in the hotel, then go walk on the trail as far as we could and turn around and come back. All in all a reasonable plan.

I then started looking at the next couple of days, only to learn that there are no stores, no pubs, and no transportation other than our feet. Basically we were going to be in BFE without any backup. Not a good idea for two pensioners!

While we did get clean clothes, a great cup of tea, and walked several miles along the canal which was very peaceful, once I got settled in my room, I started planning the replan, again!

So a new plan is now created for us to cut across to Okehampton which would take us into an area more populated and away from the cliffs.
