Hiking Without Supervision

Tales from the trail (aka Senior Moments)

Day 13, April 24: Recovery

On Sunday, the British government decided to text every single person in the country with a “test” public announcement. This announcement is in case of emergency in which case they would provide explicit instructions. Kinda like the old air raid sirens during WWII except modern-day on your phone.

It was funny actually because they must have done it in waves as you could hear the alarm go off all over the place, people fumbling to find phones and figure out what the hell was going on. I wonder does the government know something they are not sharing?

It was a lazy day really. I shipped tents and sleeping bags back to Scotland from whence they came, Murray sent his to London, and then took a couple of hours to plan places to stay for the next section of the hike. Once that was done (mostly), I took a nap. Have to let my foot heal you know!

Pretty much stayed at the hostel to do laundry, recover, and replan. The sunset was very encouraging as the sun was peeking through the rain clouds. Supposed to be good weather for tomorrow.

Hahahaha. Funny – I received that same test alert on my phone while I was already boarded at LHR for my flight back to DEN. We were taxiing (definitely should have had my phone off – oops!). But about half the plane’s phones all blurted out that same ear-splitting racket, so I was comforted to know I wasn’t the only scofflaw on the flight who forgot to switch on airplane mode. The noise interrupted the whole safety briefing.

About Me

Hiya! I’m Cathie and I love to walk and hike. I’m totally addicted to long miles, preferably in the sun. Whether it’s a few miles or hundreds of miles, I like to gear up, get out, and just go.
