Today, I was taped up and ready for the paths. Even though the paths are a great way to get in the miles, they are not always smooth, and that means your feet take a pounding. The condition of the paths goes from concrete and wide to skinny and mud, so it pays to pay attention. So when I’m in my head all day long, it can sometimes be dangerous, especially when I’ll look at my watch and see that 5 miles have passed and have no idea how that happened.

The canal structure in England is extensive, I had no idea how many there were. Basically, you could go all over the country and stay on the water. Most of them were built in the 1800s but there are a few older than that. When walking on them today, we forget that they were built for industry and not for the pleasure cruising that is the main use today.

There are a couple of places that are great for a break. The View and its marina was one of them. We clambered through a field to get to it, but totally worth the effort. Apparently, there is a 5 mile loop that takes people down part of the canal.
