Hiking Without Supervision

Tales from the trail (aka Senior Moments)

May 5: Pack and repack (for Eric ðŸ¤£)

I woke up really early feeling a bit delicate from the wine last night but otherwise glad to be backpack free.

I might have mentioned that I sent three different packages at three different times back to Scotland to reduce the weight and bulkiness of my pack. The first package just had bits and pieces that I felt were taking up room and maybe adding weight (6 pens, big notepad, metal water bottle, whisky flask that was now empty, belt, hiking trousers, extra bits and pieces of undies, etc.)

The second package was bigger and heavier. We picked up our tents in Bath with the intention to camp the rest of the way, but you all know how that went. So, I had to make room for the tent, sleeping pad, sleeping pad pump, and ground mat. I sent back even more clothes and basically managed with two sets of clothes. One for hiking, and one to change into at night. I honestly did not miss anything that I sent back.

The third box was sent when I decided that camping for the next couple months was just not in my future and I made the decision to go the luxurious route of hotel/BnB/hostel. So sent back tent, sleeping pad, pump, sleeping bag, and ground mat. The pack will be really light now, right? Wrong! That fuxing pack was heavy no matter what was taken out – can’t figure that out at all.

So this morning I opened all the boxes, put everything away, and then put on real clothes and makeup. Yeah!! I feel like a human!

Found this gem when looking through the pics.
